Connecticut Tribes Forsook All Govt. Sponsored Sports Betting, iGaming and Casino of Windsor

Two of the Indigenous American tribes of Connecticut named Mashantucket Pequot, and the Mohegan Tribe have proclaimed they are renouncing the plans to collaboratively develop a special satellite casino named Tribal Winds in East Windsor.

The casino construction plan which was budgeted around 200-million dollar to 300-million dollar was to hold almost 60 table games and 1,800 slot machines. The plan was approved by former governor Dannel Malloy and the Connecticut General-Assembly in 2017. The prime objective of constructing such a satellite gaming venue was to keep the flow of gaming dollars through the Connecticut-Massachusetts borderline to MGM’s approximately 960-million dollar invested casino resort in Springfield.

Slot revenue earned from the Foxwood and Mohegan tribe casinos has been plummeting for many years. The reason behind this decline in the revenue is considered the expansion of gambling in all states in New England. As a consequence, Connecticut has been collecting low tax revenue.

In a joint statement, the tribes stated that they had been through all the difficulties on the Tribal Winds constructing project. There had been times when the easiest choice was to just quit. The tribes also told that none could accuse them of the last delay. They believed the project was still viable and it could appear in fruition once the industry improved.

In the end, the tribes noted that the project was being permanently closed.

Now two of the tribes of Connecticut has fallen into odds with several regional lawmakers and the present Governor Ned Lamont for over the past couple of years.

Lamont has become governor of the state in 2019’s January and has helped the tribes closing the East Windsor’s project to avert further coalition with MGM-Resorts. The governor seems to believe that any legal confrontation would merely delay the gaming industry’s expansion further.

Foxwood and Mohegan Sun have announced decreased gross revenue in gaming during the pandemic coronavirus. Rodney Butler, the Chairman of Mashantucket Pequot, has said that the whole situation feels to him like a good omen as the tribes and governor are more focused on gaming spread. He has added that they have continual conversations with Lamont and he is waiting to have a more detailed conversation.
