Malta Gaming Authority Hires Brand New Chief Executive Officer

Dr Carl Brincat has appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of MGA by the Malta Gaming Authorities Governing Board. MGA appoints new CEO according to the Gaming Act terms and article 6(2). A highly competitive selection process has followed in selecting the new CEO. On December 17, 2020, MGA called application for the post from the public, and with this step, the competitive selection process commenced.

Details about Carl

By profession, Carl is a lawyer, and within the MGA, he held the Chief Legal and Enforcement Officer role last time. In MGA’s legal team, he joined after three years of training in criminal law and stayed as a part of it for over six years. In the last four years, he was part of MGA’s high-level regulatory committees and strategic direction. Carl is a Chamber of Advocates member and a member of the International Association of Gambling Regulations, International of Gaming Law. On the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit Boards, Carl sits. In local and international conferences, Carl was a regular speaker related to global and gaming regulatory issues.

Carl’s Statement

Carl Brincat said that “at such a critical juncture to be selected to lead the MGA and the same industry is an honor. The authority has done the work, and I’m proud of it so far in raising the supervisory standard and dedicated to ensuring that we will continue along this path. However, cultivating stronger partnerships with stakeholders and other regulators is essential. To achieve a regulatory environment, the industry itself needs to accomplish the objectives of MGA. Moreover, setting out the transparent and effective law in a proportionate manner is also essential.

Following the recent resignation of Heathcliff Farrugia, MGA’s board of governors appointed Dr Carl Brincat as the new CEO.
