Yuriko Koike, the governor of Tokyo, says that the capital and the most crowded prefecture of Japan is pondering over the idea of creating a bid for an implemented resort-casino.
The central government of Japan has confirmed the national fundamental policy last week. The policy will rule the forthcoming three IRs. Lawmakers have also confirmed a break in the period of submission for the involved prefectures and their consortium partners.
Tokyo Mulling Entering Casino Race
Cities with public expressed intentions about bidding for any of the three IR licenses are Yokohama, Wakayama, Osaka, and Nagasaki. Tokyo is a place which is long been a preferred destination among all casino operators. However, the city has not yet officially announced the candidacy of the news. Everyone is expecting such an announcement very soon.
Tokyo is Japan’s most crowded city with over 8.6 million inhabitants. The second most populated city is Yokohama which has only 3.7 million people.
Licensing such commercial casinos was a prime objective of the previous Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, the successor of Shinzo Abe is also carrying on the goal. Suga’s dominating LDP or Liberal Democratic Party had the strength and support to advance with the process of the IR despite large mass opposition. The National Diet is also playing as an adversary. Suga and Abe find see casinos and resorts as a financial propeller for Japan that will drive leisure visit to the Land of the Rising Sun.
Koike has revealed that Tokyo might join the process and that can make Sands reconsider. The empire of Casino, which along with Las Vegas and Singapore operate in Macau. Macau is reportedly the world’s richest and casino junction.
However, the Managing director of International Development, Tanasijevich added that the probabilities of Tokyo joining the race are negligible.
